Improve Filtration for Optimum Equipment Reliability
Improve Filtration for Optimum Equipment Reliability

Cervera, S.M.

Abstract:
Data obtained through random sampling of rotating equipment lube and seal oil systems indicate that the API-614 standard, as it pertains to filtration and flushing, is insufficient to ensure that particulate contamination is maintained to within the levels necessary to achieve optimum equipment reliability and safety, without increasing operating cost.

Adopting and practicing the guidelines presented should result in the following benefits: 1) The frequency of bearing, oil pump, mechanical seal, fluid coupling, gearbox and hydraulic control valve failures would be minimized. 2) The mean time between planned maintenance (MTBPM) would be increased. The result will be a substantial increase in safety and cost savings to the operator.
